Anthurium in Pastel

Anthurium in Pastel
Pastel sketch

This is another sketch in pastel that I’ve been working on. I’m experimenting with color and different compositons before starting a new canvas. The anthurium  plant is an interesting subject. My daughter likes the bright pinks and reds together. It reminds her of valentine’s day.

36 x 24 in. pastel sketch
Right now I’m just sketching with pastel to get ideas for my next paintings. Here’s a sketch I started while at the Tea Room with my other plein air painting friends. We each took our turn to sit in the the red chair to be sketched.

This red chair is located in the front of my house. I painted this picture in the morning by first covering the whole canvas with blue and white paint. Then I drew the subject in with red paint. It was quite wet when I added the green, orange and dark blue. Simplicity was my goal.

Calla Lillies are interesting flowers to paint. I started with a red background and then while still wet began painting the lilly with gobs of white.
